Alligators
Although the look like crocodiles, alligators are acctually very different from them. Alligators live in the swamps and lakes of Florida and Louisiana. The size of an average male alligator would be 3 to 5 metres long. The babies are about 15 to 20 centimetres long. Wild alligators live up to 35 to 50 years, while those in captive live from 60 to 80 years. Alligators eat all kinds of meat, mainly fishes, turtles, snakes and small mammals. The females are usually smaller in size compared to the males. Although the female alligators look ferocious, they are acctually very gentle. Their natural enemies are racoons, birds and even other alligators. They use their webbed feet and tail to propel them in water.
Adelie Penguins
The adelie penguin is, like all penguins, small and flightless. The adelie penguin lives in Antartica in September and October. The average size of an Adelie Penguin is 69.9 centimetres tall. It weighs about 3.9 to 5.4 kilograms and lives up to 20 years. Their main diet consists of fish and squid, but mainly on krill and tiny shrimplike animals. They breed and oraise their young at their gatherings, also known as colonies. The females usually lay about 2 eggs in the nest, which hatch in December. They take turns looking after the new born chick until they are about 3 weeks old. The chicks would then gather in a large group of young penguins. The chicks would only start to find their own food at the age of 9 weeks. They would then go to their usual hunting spot, which would be shallow waters.
Coyotes
The coyotes adapt very well to their surroundings and breed in large numbers. They used to live only in the deserts and prairies of western United States and Mexico, but now they can be found almost everywhere in North America. Their popularities are, unlike many other animals, increasing. No matter how many times men have tried to kill coyotes because they steal their food, the coyotes still continue to thrive. Adult coyotes range from 58 to 64 centimetres high and 1 to 1.3 metres long. They weigh about 9 to 23 kilograms, and select a mate at the age of 2. The females would give birth to 1 to 12 pups in spring. The reason why they adapt so easily to their surroundings is because they have a large range of food in their diet. They can also eat garbage when they cannot find any other food. The coyotes are also very smart. they know that ravens usually hover over dead animals, so they would head towards the direction of the ravens. The coyotes' main main food competitor for food would be the wolf. The coyotes can communicate in 11 different sounds, excluding body language and scent.
Snowy Owls
Snowy owls are unlike many other owls. In a way, you could say that they are special owls. Snowy owls can be found in the open, treeless areas of the Artic, also known as the tundras. The adoult is about 52 to 71 centimetres tall. their wingspan is 1.3 to 1.5 metres long. The wild owls live up to about 9.5 years. Those in captivity live up to 35 years. Their main diet consists of lemmings, but they also eat small rodents, rabbits, birds and fish. Unlike many other owls, they are very active in the daytime, especially at summertime. Although they have excellent eyesight, the artic is all covered in white, so it becomes hard for it to find its prey, which is also white. Therefore, it also relies on its hearing. When flying, it would swoop down and use its sharp claws, also known as talons, to capture its prey. The females lay about 3 to 11 eggs at a time, in their nests, which are, strangely, built on the ground. The number of eggs they lay are depending on the amount of food. For example, if the amount of food is scarce, the female would wait untill there is enough food for the chicks and the parents, and then lay the eggs. The young owls leave their nests when they are less than a month old. The males are usually whiter than the females, and the males continue to grow paler as they grow older.
Blue-footed Boobies
The blue-footed booby is a very strange animal. The blue footed boobies live in the western coasts of Central and South America. They are about 81 to 86 centimetres tall, and they weigh 1.5 kilograms. The wingspan of a blue-footed booby is about 1.5 metres. The females are a slightly bigger than the males. A wild blue-footed booby lives up to an average of 17 years. Their diet consists of small fish such as anchovies. When in flight, they swoop down and catch their prey in the water. They can dive from 24 metres in the air. The males would strut about during mating season to show off their feet, as the females uaually pick the male with the bluest feet as her mate. Although the females also have blue feet, the males' feet are more attractive. They do not make much of a nest, so the female would just lay 1 to 3 eggs on the ground. The parents would take turns looking after its eggs. They use their feet to keep the eggs warm. the chicks would never stray away too far from the nest sites, as the parents won't retrieve it if it strays away. The parents look after the chicks until they are about 2 months old. From then on, the chicks survive on their own.

 Posting 2 - Autobiography @ 5:17 PM
I first saw light when I emerged out of my mom's tummy in 9 April 1996, in the middle of the night. I was very tiny at that time, all covered with blood. It was a long time before I was discharged. I remember my elder sister saying that she was itching to get rid of me, as I got all the attention from everyone. Whenever she got the chance, she would try to make funny faces at me, supposedly to make me feel uncomfortable, but everytime she did that, I would laugh. Once my mother saw that, and she reprimanded her although she was only 2 years old! Sadly, my glory of being the centre of everyone's attention lasted only for a while, as soon after my first birthday, my yonger sister was born. I first started to go to school when I was 2. It was something like a pre-preschool, meant for children who had problems with socialising. My mom said that she had sent me there to learn to socialise, because whenever my mom brought my cousins to our house, I would hide away in the room I shared with my elder sister, reading a book which was very simple. When my cousins came and 'asked' me to play with them, I always refused. Thats why my mom sent me there. Although at the end of the year, I still did not socialise a lot, at least I would agree to play with my cousins. The school I went to to spend 4 years of my life there was Kinderland. There, I remember vividly, was a nice place where everyone was friends. Nobody was neglected, and everyone was pink in health. When I first arrived with a bunch of kids the same age as me, I could see different kinds of expressions on their faces. Some were excited, some were nervous, some were crying, and some did not even show any expressions, like me. I did not feel particularly nervous or excited, and the school did not seem as scary as my elder siblings said. It was fun and it was definately a very good school, as by the time i graduated from kindergarden, I could solve difficult problems meant for 8-year-olds, read and understand both english and chinese words that were meant for 7-year-olds, and read slightly more advanced books at my age. My primary school was Pei Chun Public School. I was in class 1D. When I had my first day there, I saw many pupils of my age, but none whom I recognised. I still had problems socialising, even though I was already taking Primary 1, so I did not make any friends until it was the third week. By then, everyone had many, many friends already, and I had only made my first friend, Bi Xuan. She was very smart, often getting tied with me in tests, and both of us always topped the class. She was the one who helped me overcome my fear of being laughed at for being anti-social, and by the end of the term, I had quite a number of friends, like Boon Cheng, Jia Min and of course, Bi Xuan. At the end of the year, I recieved the prize of first in class, second in standard, best in mathematics and best in chinese. I scored a nice 297/300 that year. Bi Xuan was second in class, third in standard, best in mathematics and best in english. She scored 296/300, and when she saw that i had beaten her by 1 mark, she was hopping mad. Nevertheless, we were in the same class. However, something unfortunate had happened that year. Because of my house being very far away from my school, I usually stayed in my grandmother's house from Monday till Friday. At the end of the year, my grandfather passed away as he fell of the stairs. At his funeral, we wore black and white. Everyone was crying very badly, especially my grandmother. I had to transfer to a new school, as my grandmother's house was sold, because she could not possibly live alone. She went to live with us, and the house was sold. There onwards, my primary school life was spent in Henry Park Primary School. When I came to school, I was as jumpy as a jackrabbit. I was afraid that everyone would find me weird, as I was a transfer student. I missed my friends so badly. Apparently, there was another transfer student named Benedict Sim. He had came back from England, where he studied there since he was 7. He did not seem nervous or afraid at all, in fact excited. We talked a little, as we were both transfer students. He told me that I should not be afraid of being left out, as i was just like everyone else. Although I was a transfer student, that did not mean anything. I was not disabled in anyway; I had a healthy body like everyone else. Therefore, he was my first friend in Henry Park. Now, I am in Primary 6I. I had a wonderful 5 years in Henry Park, and I still keep in touch with my friends in Pei Chun. I may not have overcome my anti-social problem, but I definately have very good friends like Jillian, Elaine, Xin Yuan, Crystal, Li Jia and Tamara. I may have encountered many problems here, but as long as I have my trusted friends, I shall be content. I do hope to get to a good school, and of course, score a higher mark than most of the 6J pupils at our PSLE!!!

 Posting 1 - Elizabeth Choy @ 9:56 PM
Elizabeth Choy was a war heroine. She was a teacher at 2 schools. Even though her marraige was arranged, she still loves her husband a lot. In other words, she was a devoted wife. Elizabeth came to Singapore before there was World War II. When the Japanese took over Singapore, her husband was captured by the Japanese. When she requested to see her husband, she was turned down. She waited for a few years for her husband to be released, and one fateful day, she was asked if she wanted to meet her husband. However, things took an unexpected turn and she was thrown into a cell with 20 other prisoners, with her valuables taken away. Although they were not able to talk to each other, the prisoners learned sign language from 1 prisoner. They communicated through this. They were held prisoners for 193 days, with little food, water and ventilation. There, Elizabeth was tortured by the Japanese. She was electrocuted on her bare body in front of her husband, causing her to have a phobia of electronics. She would even refuse to press a switch. They tortured her for information, claiming that she was anti-Japanese, and she was not in the first place!!! When she was finally released, she continued to try to meet her husband, but once again rejected. When World War II finally ended, all the surviving prisoners were released, including her husband. However, her husband suffered major damages, and could never fully recover. She was invited to Britan to teach. She went to Britan for 3 years, leaving the rest of her family at Singapore, as they refused to come along. She came back before Christmas. Elizabeth then went to teach at St. Margerets(currently still here). After a while(few years, perhaps), she went to teach at St. Josephs(currently still here as well). Then, she built a school for the disabled children. Although the Japanese tortured her, she is unlike the rest, who do not forgive them. She refused to tell who wrer the ones who tortured her, saying that she had already forgiven them. I think we should follow her example and not only think of revenge, as revenge is endless. If anyone has offended us, we should forgive them. As the saying goes : Forgive and Forget.
